He was trying to justify God and the goodness of the world in his well-known "Essay on Man"!

How can someone be so short-sighted???

Hello

It is something I often read from people with "new age" beliefs. In a certain way I can understand what they mean by that : By considering that whatever happen to you is right, it means that it is a good thing because you can learn something from whatever happen to you, the good or the bad, everything is just an experience. Suffering is a way to learn about you and about others, you can increase your empathy and compassion toward others by experiencing suffering by yourself. They also think that what happen to you is the result of what you are inside, so in a certain way, when someting bad happen to you it means you are in the wrong path in your life, you are in a bad energy so bad things happen to you, on the contrary when you are in a good energy, good things happen to you. They call this " the law of attraction". Everything is right, because bad events happening in your life are like a signal that warns you that your are totally in the wrong path, so it's a good thing because it allows you to change your way of being and living, it is like a compass.

The problem is : what about people who are born totally ill/disabled ? What is the cause of their suffering ? In what way can we say that what they are living is right while some of them are totally unconscious? It is difficult to admit that it has a meaning, that God wants to help human beings to increase compassion between humans through those who are suffering.

yes those newagers are so broken!! Their philosophy is so lame! They don't really come to terms with the meaninglessness of suffering, as you point out.
